A confirmed list of the 48 nations competing in the 2026 World Cup
The 2026 World Cup is approaching quickly and we cannot wait! It’s going to be the biggest World Cup ever with 48 nations battling it out to win the biggest prize in football. Below is a quick breakdown of each of the 48 teams competing in the USA, Mexico and Canada this summer.
Group A
Czechia
Qualified through UEFA’s European qualifiers, Czechia remains a competitive side. They have never won the World Cup, but as Czechoslovakia they were runners-up in 1934 and 1962.
Mexico
Mexico qualified via CONCACAF and are regular participants. They have never won the World Cup but reached the quarter-finals in 1970 and 1986, both times as hosts.
South Africa
Qualified through CAF qualifiers, South Africa hosted the 2010 World Cup. They have not advanced beyond the group stage.
South Korea
South Korea qualified via AFC and are one of Asia’s strongest teams. Their best performance was reaching the semi-finals in 2002.
Group B
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Qualified through UEFA, Bosnia’s only World Cup appearance came in 2014, where they exited in the group stage.
Canada
Canada qualified via CONCACAF and have been improving significantly. Before 2022, their only appearance was in 1986.
Qatar
Qatar qualified either as hosts or through AFC. They made their debut in 2022 but were eliminated in the group stage.
Switzerland
Regular qualifiers via UEFA, Switzerland have reached the quarter-finals three times, most notably in 1954.
Group C
Brazil
Brazil qualified through CONMEBOL and are the most successful team in World Cup history with 5 titles (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002).
Haiti
Qualified via CONCACAF, Haiti’s only previous World Cup appearance was in 1974.
Morocco
Qualified through CAF, Morocco reached the semi-finals in 2022, the best-ever finish by an African nation.
Scotland
Qualified via UEFA, Scotland have made several appearances but never progressed beyond the group stage.
Group D
Australia
Qualified through AFC, Australia’s best performances include reaching the Round of 16 in 2006 and 2022.
Paraguay
Qualified via CONMEBOL, Paraguay reached the quarter-finals in 2010.
Turkey
Qualified through UEFA, Turkey finished 3rd in the 2002 World Cup.
USA
Qualified via CONCACAF, the USA reached the semi-finals in 1930 and the quarter-finals in 2002.
Group E
Côte d’Ivoire
Qualified through CAF, known for strong squads but yet to progress beyond the group stage.
Curaçao
Qualified via CONCACAF, Curaçao are an emerging side yet to make their World Cup debut.
Ecuador
Qualified through CONMEBOL, Ecuador reached the Round of 16 in 2006.
Germany
Qualified via UEFA, Germany are four-time World Cup winners (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014).
Group F
Japan
Qualified via AFC, Japan consistently reach the knockout stages, with several Round of 16 appearances.
Netherlands
Qualified through UEFA, the Netherlands have been runners-up three times (1974, 1978, 2010) but never won.
Sweden
Qualified via UEFA, Sweden’s best finish was runners-up in 1958.
Tunisia
Qualified through CAF, Tunisia regularly compete but rarely progress beyond the group stage.
Group G
Belgium
Qualified via UEFA, Belgium finished 3rd in 2018 during their golden generation.
Egypt
Qualified through CAF, Egypt have a strong football history but limited World Cup success.
Iran
Qualified via AFC, Iran frequently qualify but have yet to reach the knockout rounds.
New Zealand
Qualified via OFC playoffs, New Zealand’s best showing was going unbeaten in 2010 but still exiting in the group stage.

Qualified via CAF, Cape Verde are a rising football nation gaining international recognition.
Saudi Arabia
Qualified through AFC, best known for reaching the Round of 16 in 1994.
Spain
